SHOWDOWN IN CAYE CAULKER: MINISTER DECLARES ‘NO MORE DOCKS’!

A fiery confrontation over an illegal barricade has ignited a fierce debate about public spaces in Caye Caulker Village. On Wednesday, the village council took a bold stand, declaring that access to public beaches and streets is off-limits for private exploitation.

Real Estate Agents Under Fire!

Area Representative for Belize Rural South, Andre Perez, didn’t mince words as he pointed fingers at real estate agencies. “We need to get to the root of the problem, and one is the real estate agencies,” Perez asserted. He revealed that buyers are being misled with false promises, leading them to believe they can secure perks like golf carts and docks. “When you sell a property to somebody, you cannot guarantee these things,” he emphasized.

Waterfront Property Owners BEWARE!

Perez delivered a stern warning to those eyeing waterfront properties: owning such land doesn’t entitle you to build a dock. “Buying a waterfront property does not guarantee you that you will be building a dock. In fact, we are making it clear: no more docks,” he declared. This decree isn’t just for private individuals but extends to investors, businesspeople, resorts, and restaurants alike.

Beach Reclamation: The New Battleground!

Addressing the contentious issue of beach reclamation, Perez clarified that while temporary use might be permitted, it cannot lead to the permanent privatization of public spaces. This statement comes on the heels of a heated clash over an illegal barricade, which saw the Caye Caulker Village Council removing wooden posts that were blocking a public road. The individual responsible attempted to halt the removal but was thwarted by police intervention, restoring public access.

Public Access is NON-NEGOTIABLE!

In an official statement, the Caye Caulker Village Council unanimously affirmed, “Beach access must be available to all Belizeans and visitors. These areas are nationally owned and exist for the benefit of everyone in our community.” This resounding message underscores the community’s commitment to preserving public spaces against private encroachment.
