We would like to preface this by imploring everybody that’s interested in acquiring a slice of Belize to make sure to go through a reputable Agent. Make sure that said agent is a member of BNAR (Belize National Associates of Realtors) and make sure to check the membership page frequently. It pains us to see individuals getting taken for hundreds to millions of dollars without ever being able to recover those funds. Unfortunately there is also very little repercussion to the perpetrators here in Belize as the legal system in those types of frauds has not caught up yet. Going with a bigger US franchise does award you with some additional protection as you’ll be able to take recourse with corporate if anything should go wrong e.g. RE/MAX.
Shocking new details have emerged about Doris Grant, the alleged mastermind behind a multi-million-dollar land fraud scheme that has left many in Northern Belize reeling. Grant, who has been described by some as a “notorious scammer,” now faces a slew of serious charges, including obtaining property by deception, obtaining money transfer by deception, and theft. But the scale and audacity of her alleged crimes are only just coming to light!
Grant is accused of duping numerous business owners in the region through an elaborate scam that involved a bogus land clinic. According to sources, she orchestrated a high-stakes operation in Shipyard Village, where she set up shop with a team of individuals posing as officials from the Lands Department. These imposters allegedly collected thousands in cash from unsuspecting victims, all in exchange for non-existent parcels of land!
Residents of Shipyard Village, a quiet community that rarely sees this kind of scandal, are stunned. One victim, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “She seemed so legitimate—had all the paperwork and everything. We all thought we were getting a great deal. Now, we have nothing but empty pockets and fake deeds!”
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs: “ I have been informed that there was an investigation being carried out into an alleged land fraud, as you rightly mentioned. I think it is over the course of the last month or so that an investigation has been carried out. I am told that several witnesses from the Mennonite community have provided statements and so that entire file, I am told, has been turned over to the DPP’s office. As you know, that investigation is still ongoing. And so looking for evidence I’m sure is one of the reasons behind searches of that nature and so I would think that is the reason why.”

Cordel Hyde, Minister of Natural Resources: “We we weren’t there we heard about it after the fact you know and and we have land clinics all the time and these persons know what it looks like they know the amount of persons, the kind of work we get done, the kind of grinding that takes place and these land clinics are often times held in public buildings held in auditoriums or schools or community centers and but that’s a man that’s a that’s a developing Story That’s a crazy story that’s a – I don’t know where that’s going to end up but we are cooperating with the authorities and trying to be as helpful as we possibly, there’s no record of any payments being made that’s, a man that’s the most craziest thing I’ve heard when you really listen to what they say alleged happen but I don’t know – like I said you have to guard your money jealously you have treated like your wife and your husband you don’t let it out your eyesight and you don’t be getting off your money to to to fake agents and all kinds of crazy situations like who does that like who does that I mean if someone brings a scheme to you and it sounds too good to be true then it’s not true it’s not true and you better keep your money in your pocket”
