In a groundbreaking move set to transform the healthcare landscape of southern Belize, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Heineman-Robicsek Foundation Inc., has officially opened the doors to the brand-new Placencia Polyclinic! Situated conveniently near the Placencia Airstrip, this state-of-the-art facility is primed to deliver top-notch healthcare services to the residents of Placencia Village, Seine Bight, and surrounding communities—and let’s not forget the growing number of tourists flocking to this tropical paradise!
This impressive project, funded by the area’s Tourism Development Fund along with BTB’s Industry Development cash, is a major win for healthcare accessibility. The clinic boasts a laundry list of features, including a main building, a laundry and generator room, and external amenities such as a parking lot, a security booth, planters, and a fully cemented main entrance road. Inside, the Polyclinic is fully loaded: consultation rooms, reception and registration areas, spacious waiting rooms, an asthma bay, a pharmacy, triage rooms, a lab, shock/trauma rooms, and more—all geared up to provide top-tier service to every patient who walks through its doors.
But that’s not all! Along with the cutting-edge facility, there was a generous donation of medical equipment and a fully equipped ambulance handed over to the Ministry of Health and Wellness, dedicated exclusively to the new clinic. Plus, with prime land, air, and sea connectivity, getting to the Polyclinic has never been easier!
The grand opening was nothing short of a star-studded affair. In attendance were the bigwigs of Belize: Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, Hon. Anthony Mahler; Minister of Health and Wellness, Hon. Kevin Bernard; Minister of Youth, Sports, and Transport, Hon. Rodwell Ferguson, and other local leaders like Mrs. Nicole Heath from the Heineman-Robicsek Foundation (major donors alert!), and Mr. Warren Garbutt, Chairman of the Placencia Village Council. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Bernard praised the BTB’s efforts, hailing the Polyclinic as a shining example of modern healthcare in Belize.
This new Polyclinic is more than just a healthcare facility—it’s a symbol of BTB’s dedication to boosting the quality of life in Belize’s hottest tourist spots. By investing in healthcare infrastructure, BTB is not only elevating the well-being of local communities but also making Placencia an even more attractive destination for tourists worldwide. A healthier community and a booming tourism sector? Sounds like a win-win to us!
